Education African Scholars Global Connect

Testimonial for the 2023 Soft Skills and Mentorship Program Date: 9th July, 2023. Dear EduAfrik, I am Paschal Igbokwe, a graduate of Public Administration and I’m writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional soft skills and mentorship program I participated in at the esteemed nonprofit orgnization, EduAfrik. I would like to share my testimonial to convey my utmost satisfaction with the valuable experiences and growth I achieved through this FREE Summer Program. Meeting Eduafrik has been a blessing for me. I first became acquainted with this fast-growing community of intentional African scholars in the month of March 2023, during one of my lowest points (when all hopes for graduate school had vanished), but EduAfrik, through her selfless and experienced scholars, restored my hope and enthusiasm for graduate school pursuit. I can’t express how grateful I am to the founders for their unwavering support in raising a new breed of transformative changemakers. When I initially enrolled in the soft skills and mentorship program, I had high hopes of acquiring essential skills and guidance that would complement my professional and personal development. The modules provided a well-rounded approach in the areas of “Structuring an Academic and Professional Resume”, “Writing Research Proposals for Masters and Ph.D. Admissions”, “Professional Email Writing to Professors and Potential Supervisors”, “Basics of Data Analysis”, “Crafting a Competitive Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement” and “Addressing the Essay Questions of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship”. The distinguished six scholars delivered the modules in a manner that allowed me to grasp complex concepts effortlessly. Especially the week 1 and week 5 modules Structuring an Academic and Professional Resume” and “Crafting a Competitive Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement,” anchored by scholar Stanley and sir Goodluck. Structuring a graduate school resume and a statement of purpose has been the most difficult part of my graduate school journey (I find it too tasking and draining), but today I did not only learn the salient differences between an academic and a professional resume, I was also exposed to the steps in preparing both documents. Equally important, now I can easily put my thoughts together to produce a winning statement of purpose, courtesy of scholar Stanley and Goodluck’s insightful tutelage, and I can’t thank them enough for the shared techniques, which are quite helpful. The speakers assigned to us were not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely invested in our success. They demonstrated deep understanding of the subject matters and were adept at tailoring their explanation to a layman’s understanding. The unwavering support and resourcefulness of scholar Obinna Ezeibekwe during and after the program has played a pivotal role in my personal transformation. I would also like to commend the management of EduAfrik and the guest scholars who are committed to fostering a supportive community of aspiring African scholars and youths. The opportunities for networking and collaboration with fellow participants not only broadened my professional network but also provided a platform for exchanging ideas and perspectives, which further enriched my learning experience. Overall, the soft skills and mentorship program has been an invaluable journey of self-discovery and personal growth. I am confident that the skills and knowledge I acquired through this program will continue to benefit me both personally and professionally for years to come, and I hope to FREELY teach and mentor upcoming scholars too. Many thanks to our esteemed speakers, Stanley Anukwuocha “USA”, Obinna Ezeibekwe “USA”, Linda Mgbechinma “Hong Kong”, Eric Adedze “USA”, Goodluck Adimuko “Finland”, Samuel Eneojo “UK” and other scholars that sacrificed their precious time and resources all to make this program a success. I’m forever indebted to you all for providing me with the tools and guidance to become a more confident and effective individual. Indeed, the program came at the right time. Lastly, instead of being asked to pay EduAfrik for such a rare gesture, I was even rewarded with a whopping sum of Two Thousand Five Hundred Naira for being attentive and answering some of the questions asked by Ms. Linda, the speaker who anchored the week 3 module. The summer program was a ‘wow!’ experience. I am truly grateful for the transformative experiences and opportunities this 2023 SUMMER PROGRAM has bestowed upon me and other participants. Long Live Africa! Long Live EduAfrik!! Long Live The Founders And Scholars At EduAfrik!!! Thank you! Sincerely, Paschal C. Igbokwe (From Nigeria)
